Hostels

Pretoria School has the facilities of 3 hostels, namely :

A Senior Boys' Hostel and A Senior Girls' Hostel

It offers accommoation to learners from Grade 1 - Grade 9, as well as special class learners.

A Pre-school Hostel (5 years - Gr1) Boys' & Girls' Hostel

It offers accommodation to pre-school children from 5 to 10 years.

Learners who are admitted to the school are not automatically admitted to the hostel. This must be applied for, and admission takes place according to certain conditions. Learners living far away receive preference.

The following services are offered by the hostel :

Accommodation, with high norms and values.
Three balanced meals.
Qualified staff to assist learners with difficulties in getting dressed, bathing, going to the toilet and eating.
Laundry facilities (for school clothes).
Nurses to distribute medication to learners.
Staff to keep an eye on learners in the hostel.
TV Room and dining hall.

The staff consists of a headmaster that is the overseer head of the hostel, 5 teachers, 1 hostel manager, 1 chef, 3 nursing staff (one is working night shift), 13 housekeepers and 9 general assistants.

Full time caring is done by the house keepers and general assistants. Supervision is provided by school staff members who are on duty on a daily basis. The hostels are closed on weekends/holidays and hostel learners have to go home then. Learners must be fetched by 17h00 on Fridays and can be returned again on Sundays between 14h00 and 19h00.
